Senior Backend Engineer (Go)

The role

Our client is a payments infrastructure business handling high-volume transactions. The team is rebuilding part of its core processing service and needs a senior backend engineer who can work independently and raise the technical standard.

This is a six-month contract, with a strong possibility of extension. The team is distributed across Europe and works remotely, with core hours overlapping UK time.

Key responsibilities

• Design and build high-throughput services in Go.
• Improve latency, reliability and observability.
• Work with platform engineers on deployment and operational safety.
• Review code and contribute to technical decisions.
• Document the service clearly enough for the permanent team to own it.

What we are looking for

• Strong commercial Go experience.
• Experience building high-throughput, low-latency services.
• A solid understanding of distributed systems and failure modes.
• Comfort working independently in a distributed team.
• Experience in payments or financial infrastructure is useful.

What is on offer

• Day rate of £600–£700, depending on experience.
• Fully remote within Europe, with core hours in UK time.
